Optilene® Polypropylene Sutures - 6/0: Excellence in Precision Surgery

Optilene® - 6/0 sutures by B. Braun are an ideal choice for surgical procedures that require absolute precision and safety. Made from polypropylene, a synthetic non-absorbable material, these monofilament sutures are designed to ensure gentle and reliable suturing even in the most complex operations, such as those in cardiovascular, ophthalmic, and neurosurgery.

What is Optilene® 6/0 and Why Choose It?

Optilene® 6/0 is a monofilament suture made from polypropylene, a material that provides high strength, biocompatibility, and non-absorbability. Its blue coloring enhances visibility in the surgical field, facilitating thread management during the procedure. Polypropylene is widely used for its ability to withstand mechanical stress while maintaining its integrity over time, thus avoiding the risk of breakage.

Technical Features of Optilene® 6/0 Suture

  • Gauge: 6/0, ideal for procedures requiring thin and manageable threads, such as those in ophthalmic surgery and microsurgery.
  • Needle: DS12, with a triangular tip and 3/8 circle, cutting, which facilitates insertion into tissue without causing damage or trauma.
  • Length: 45 cm, a standard size that ensures sufficient length for a variety of surgical procedures.
  • Composition: Polypropylene, a material that offers strength and stability over time, minimizing inflammatory reactions.
  • Coating: Uncoated, for greater safety in handling and optimal performance.

Areas of Use: Where to Use Optilene® 6/0

Optilene® 6/0 sutures are used in a variety of surgical disciplines, including:

  • Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery: For thin and precise sutures, ensuring excellent aesthetic and functional results, particularly in delicate areas.
  • Microsurgery: Due to their fineness, 6/0 sutures are ideal for procedures on blood vessels, nerves, and microscopic tissues, where precision is crucial.
  • Ophthalmology: Used for suturing ocular tissues, where precision is essential and the risk of tissue damage must be minimized.
  • Vascular Surgery: Perfect for suturing thin blood vessels, maintaining optimal closure and good visibility during the procedure.
  • Cardiac Surgery: Indispensable in delicate cardiovascular operations, where the strength and stability of the suture are critical.
  • Neurosurgery: For suturing the nervous system and surrounding tissues gently and safely, minimizing the risk of permanent damage.

Note: Optilene® by Bbraun is equivalent to the Prolene suture by Ethicon/Premilene Bbraun.
