Thanks to their polypropylene composition, these non-absorbable monofilament sutures are perfect for suturing delicate tissues, including those involved in cardiovascular, ophthalmic, and neurosurgery. Discover the features, benefits, and applications of these advanced sutures, ideal for healthcare professionals and surgeons of all specialties.

What is Optilene® and Why Choose It?

Optilene® is a synthetic monofilament suture, made from high-quality polypropylene, a durable, biocompatible, and non-absorbable material. Its blue coloring enhances visibility during the procedure, facilitating the identification and management of the suture in the surgical field.

The non-absorbability is one of the main characteristics of Optilene®, making it ideal for suturing tissues that require long-term support.

Technical Features of Optilene® 5/0 Suture

  • Gauge: 5/0, ideal for procedures requiring a thin yet strong suture, such as those in plastic and ophthalmic surgery.

  • Length: 45 cm, a standard size for a wide range of surgical procedures.
  • Composition: Polypropylene, a synthetic material that offers tensile strength and a low inflammatory reaction.
  • Coating: Uncoated, to ensure maximum safety and performance during suturing.

Areas of Use: Applications of Optilene® 5/0

The Optilene® 5/0 sutures are extremely versatile and can be used in various surgical specialties, including:

  • Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery: For suturing skin and soft tissues, where precise intervention is required with minimal scarring risk.
  • Microsurgery: Due to their fineness and precision, they are perfect for operations requiring a thin and easily maneuverable suture.
  • Ophthalmology: Used for closing ocular incisions, ensuring atraumatic passage and minimizing damage to delicate ocular tissues.
  • Vascular Surgery: For suturing blood vessels and arteries, ensuring strength and reliability even in high-pressure contexts.
  • Cardiac Surgery: Used in cardiovascular procedures, where the integrity and safety of the suture are crucial for the success of the operation.
  • Neurosurgery: For delicate interventions on the nervous system, where precision is essential to avoid damage to nerves and surrounding tissues.
