Why is the measurement of PCR important?

The measurement of PCR in whole blood, serum, or plasma has 2 purposes:

1) the level of PCR allows for the identification and monitoring of infections and diseases that cause inflammation

2) the level of hs-PCR helps to assess cardiovascular risk and disorders of the peripheral cardiovascular system.

High levels of hs-PCR have the highest risk of cardiovascular disease.
