Türk Reagent - Solution for Manual White Blood Cell Counting

The Türk Reagent is a solution used in the laboratory for the manual counting of white blood cells (leukocytes) in blood. The technique involves a standard dilution of whole blood, either venous or capillary, followed by microscopic counting of the elements present in a unit volume of the resulting cell suspension. The acetic acid in the solution causes the lysis of red blood cells, which could otherwise interfere with the count, while the dye highlights the leukocytes, making the cell nuclei clearly visible.

Main Features:

  • Accurate leukocyte counting: The Türk solution allows for obtaining a sample free of red blood cells and with the leukocyte nuclei well highlighted, facilitating the quantitative determination of white blood cells in the blood.
  • Ready-to-use solution: The reagent is generally ready to use and does not require further dilutions, ensuring stability and consistent effectiveness of the staining.
  • Diagnostic applications: Essential for hematological examinations, the Türk reagent is used in clinical laboratories for diagnosing conditions that involve alterations in leukocytes, such as infections, inflammations, or hematological diseases.
  • Mechanism of action: Acetic acid lyses red blood cells, reducing blood viscosity, while gentian violet stains the nuclei of leukocytes, improving their visibility under the microscope.

Additional Information:

  • Diagnostic purpose: An essential tool for cellular diagnostics and quantitative monitoring of leukocytes.
  • Precautions: Although the concentration of the solution is low, it should be handled following normal safety and industrial hygiene practices, as it can be irritating.

Format and Quantity:

500 ml bottle: An ideal quantity for clinical laboratories and hospitals, allowing for regular use and optimal storage of the reagent.
